Northampton County Mental Health Center 570 E. Broad Street Bethlehem, PA 18018 (610) 443-3364

John Weaver has written the first comprehensive book on the topic of Disaster Mental Health. He has been tackling the traumatic and unexpected for years, and will share his experiences as a Red Cross Mental Health volunteer. He is a Casework Supervisor for Northampton County Mental Health and is a part-time therapist for Concern Professional Services, both in Bethlehem, Pa. He also has a private consulting practice specializing in Disaster Mental Health and crisis intervention related issues. He is an instructor at the Marywood School for Social Work. Mr. Weaver has worked for the Red Cross in 6 national disasters, including the Midwest floods of 1993 and the US Air 427 plane crash in 1994. At that disaster, he was the coordinator for Red Cross disaster mental health services at the morgue. He is now a national instructor in Red Cross's disaster mental health course. His book, entitled, Disasters: Mental Health Interventions, is most unusual in that he is donating half of the royalties from sales of the book to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, and his publisher is matching his donation. To learn more about the American Red Cross, or to donate to the Disaster Relief Fund, call your local chapter or this toll free number: (800) 842-2200.
