Mila Tecala is founder and director of the Center for Loss and Grief in Washington, DC. She was selected as the 2000 National NASW social worker of the year, and was chosen as one of the top 123 psychotherapists in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area by the Washingtonian magazine. Additionally her international work has been extensive and includes involvement as senior consultant with the United States Peace Corps. She served as a consultant to the Philippine government following the 1990 Philippine earthquake. Widely recognized as an international authority on counseling persons who have experienced a personal loss, her professional career has been spent seeking to understand the grieving process that takes place as the result of both individual and catastrophic events. In the wake of the events of September 11th, she is working with employees of American Airlines.
